A member of the National Honor Society of Nurses, as well as the International Association of Forensic Nurses, Ms. Reina provides expert testimony in the field of forensic nursing, and she contributed to the textbook entitled: Interpersonal Violence by G.W. Publishing.

Mary ReinaMary Reina is an experienced RN, with several years of experience as a certified Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner (SANE). Currently, she is working on establishing a SANE program in Gold Beach, Oregon. Ms. Reina previously served as the Director of the Forensic Services Unit at the Antelope Valley Hospital in Lancaster, California. During her time there, she developed a full service forensic examiner program at the third busiest Emergency Department in California. She also started a pilot program to provide sexual assault services for four state prisons with the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

Ms. Reina has provided numerous community presentations to raise awareness on the issues of sexual assault, child abuse, non-fatal strangulation, and interpersonal violence. Through these efforts, she worked collaboratively with community partners to shatter the silence regarding interpersonal violence and assist people entering the health care setting. She partnered with Detective Alex Smith and Assemblyman Tom Lackey’s office to empower girls and women through self-defense classes with an emphasis on educating them about domestic violence prevention and response. Ms. Reina has spearheaded many efforts to provide outreach, education, and awareness, and to improve the response to violence in her community and surrounding areas.

Ms. Reina earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Gannon University, and a Master’s degree in Nursing from the University of Phoenix in 2005. Ms. Reina was honored as Woman of the Year in 2016, for State Assembly District 36, and she was also named an Honorary Commander at Edwards Air Force Base in Palmdale, California.
