Adriana Ramelli is the Executive Director of The Sex Abuse Treatment Center, a program of Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children (KMCWC) in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.

Adriana RamelliAdriana Ramelli is the Executive Director of The Sex Abuse Treatment Center (SATC), a program of Kapi‘olani Medical Center for Women and Children (KMCWC) in Honolulu, Hawai‘i.

Originally from Soledad, California, Ms. Ramelli received her Bachelor of Arts in Social Work from California State University, Sacramento, and her Master’s Degree in Social Work at the University of Hawai‘i at Manoa. Ms. Ramelli subsequently worked for the Hawai‘i State Department of Human Services Child Protective Service and Teen Intervention Program for KMCWC, prior to joining SATC as a counselor in 1982. She subsequently became Executive Director of SATC in 1984.

Under Ms. Ramelli’s leadership, SATC has grown into the main provider of comprehensive care for sexual violence survivors and their families on the island of O‘ahu. In addition to sexual assault crisis services, SATC delivers legal systems advocacy, mental health treatment, prevention and education programming, as well as medical and forensic services.

Ms. Ramelli also administers a Master Contract granted by the Hawai‘i State Department of the Attorney General for the statewide administration of funds, planning, technical assistance and monitoring of a network of sexual assault centers that deliver services across the islands.

Ms. Ramelli has been a key driver in the movement for Hawai‘i’s adoption of victim-centered policies and practices. Her successes include advocacy for the passage of numerous laws, such as Hawai‘i’s victim-counselor privilege rule, statute of limitations reform, and revisions to Hawai‘i’s penal code. Moreover, Ms. Ramelli has lead efforts to establish professional training programs in partnership with prosecutors, police, physicians and sexual assault counselors, and to implement a standardized medical-forensic protocol in the State of Hawai‘i.
